Upcoming Event
I will be a guest at an author discussion followed by an anthology book sale and signing. Sunday, December 10th, 2017 12:30 to 2:30 pm Carmichael Library, 5605 Marconi Avenue, Carmichael
Thanks to Angie Hanson and her book club group, I was the featured author guest in August. Wonderful gals, all who read Dangerous Duplicity. Fabulous wine, hors d'oeuvres and dinner outside on Angie's patio. Next stops: South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas and Arizona--very excited!!!!
Next event is the women's Serrano book club presentation and discussion of my book on 5/10 at my home. Thrilled to have so many readers and fans in this community - the best experience for an author is to be supported by friends who tell their friends about the book and these become new readers and fans. When my husband and I moved here in 2009, we had no idea how much fun Serrano would be, and what lasting friendships we would make. I never expected to make so many new friends that I really enjoy.
Thanks to Dan and Ginger Roberts for hosting a Cinco de Vino celebration at their home on 5/5 and offering to have me present and sign my latest novel, Dangerous Duplicity! Special thanks to everyone who purchased a copy.
Home/Romance/The Dordogne Deception About This Book
Review
When a romance novel opens not with a crime of passion, but a conspired, premeditated murder, there should be no doubt that the book is not your typical boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love and live happily ever after fairytale. The Dordogne Deception is a sordid, dark romantic thriller. Most of the book is told from two perspectives: Brett, who is investigating the death of his friend/mentor, and Cherise, who is living a fairytale life in a French chateau. These two have never met and have no idea that their lives will unexpectedly clash together, which may cost both of them their lives. The two different viewpoints occur concurrently, which gives readers the advantage of knowing much more than the characters making the convergence of the perspectives that much more exciting. Sherry Joyce gives enough backstory for each character so that readers will understand their personalities and motivations. Cherise is trying to overcome the shock of her sudden divorce and trying to make a fresh start by buying a bed and breakfast in the French countryside. Francois is looking for an unsuspecting, vulnerable, wealthy woman to target next in his lifelong scheme of acquiring wealth. Brett is a retired Scotland Yard detective who is trying to get back in the world after the death of his wife. Diana is a young opportunist whose goal in life is to find a rich man to take care of her. Joyce does an amazing job of weaving the lives of these four people together in a wonderfully surprising mix of tragedy and getting another chance at love. The pace of the book is a bit sluggish at times, but the primary reason for that is because the reader can feel the anxiety of the characters and you want to beg for relief from the tension. You will be eager for the story to peak when all of the secrets get revealed and the characters show their true colors. The Dordogne Deception is a masterfully written plot that will appeal to readers who enjoy books of the romance and suspense/thriller genres alike. The combination of lies, conspiracy, betrayal, murder, heartache, and love with a touch of the whimsical, all set against the backdrops of the English and French countryside’s is a wonderful surprise and delight for readers.

Local El Dorado Hills Author, Sherry Joyce, had the thrill of a lifetime when she met Kevin Costner at Harris Performing Arts Theatre in Folsom, Saturday August 8th.
What is beyond exciting for Sherry, is that when she wrote the novel, THE DORDOGNE DECEPTION, she needed exactly the right middle-aged detective to inspire her and she chose Kevin
to play the part of Brett Maxfield in her book. She knew Brett had to be undeniably handsome, have a shrewd investigative style, a laid-back approach to life, but most of all, because the book
is a story about growing through loss and finding true love, Brett had to be sincere and compassionate. Sherry says, “When I met Kevin, he asked me why I had chosen him to play the part of Brett Maxfield in the book, and I told him that no one else could.” The protagonist Kevin plays in her book, is a retired Scotland Yard detective from Wisconsin, who recently lost his wife to cancer. A
dear friend of his (Raleigh Aubrey) who was much like a father to him, dies of an improbable accident. Brett comes out of retirement to investigate the accident, and learns his friend was
murdered. The heroine in the novel, Cherise Eden, a successful executive in San Francisco, does not see a divorce coming and flees to the Dordogne, the Perigord region of France to start a new life.
Brett’s investigation takes him from the Cotswolds, to Switzerland, then Bordeaux and ultimately to the Dordogne as the investigation and clues unravel. Sherry notes, “I was able to write a dedication inside my book and explain it all to Kevin, who hopefully will be reading the book on his tour bus.” Kevin Costner was performing with his band, MODERN WEST, at Harris. “Besides being a phenomenal actor,” Sherry says, "he is tall, gracious, warm, funny and a fantastic singer.” I immediately bought two of his albums the next day because I enjoyed the original music and the lyrics. Harris was sold out, which is wonderful, and people clapped and hollered for an encore, which brought Kevin and the band back for two last songs. “I dared not tell him I was struck by lightning, while renting the castle in the Dordogne, and that is what inspired me to write the romantic suspense/murder mystery!

Lightning storm in southwest France inspires romantic suspense novel
Sherry Joyce’s debut fiction, The Dordogne Deception, was conceived when the tower of the French chateau where she was vacationing was struck by lightning. Terrified and unable to sleep that night, a romantic suspense novel was born, inspired by extensive travel over many years throughout Europe, as well as the familiarity of living in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Evoking her experience as a Silicon Valley Vice President of Human Relations, Sherry Joyce has created an appealing main character in Cherise Eden, an attractive, high profile female executive who escapes from San Francisco to a castle in southwestern France to heal the wounds from her unforeseen divorce.
A cunning guest charms the new owner of the castle, Cherise, luring her toward a deadly deception. A retired detective residing in the English Cotswolds investigates an improbable accidental death which leads him to the French castle where he prevents a murder and discovers love in the outcome. Duplicity and murder shatter Cherise’s illusions as she comes to realize decisions made during a woman’s most vulnerable moments are the most dangerous.
Author Joyce has enjoyed many years of creative and technical writing including product marketing to serving as editor-in-chief of high-tech company newsletters. Her award-winning projects and articles have been featured in Gentry, Builder Architect, California Home and Design, and National Kitchen and Bath.
She is a member of Sacramento Sisters in Crime, Northern California Publishers and Authors, San Francisco Women’s Book Association and Romance Writers of America. Find Sherry Joyce at SherryJoyce.com and facebook.com/sherry.joyce.50.
